Use actual cash
Not all so-called real money poker apps or websites allow you to use actual cash to play. Instead they require the use of credit cards, various forms of digital currencies or points, which you can only convert to real money once you cash out.
The problem with this set-up is that, in most cases, you are forced to pay exorbitant transaction or transfer fees and conversion charges when you finally decide to convert your winnings into actual cash. So, you are forced to either keep playing until your winnings become big enough that these charges don’t do as much damage or cash out sooner and just let a huge chunk of your winnings go to waste.
This is why it’s always better to play on a poker platform that actually uses real cash.
Set hard limits on how much you can spend
It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing poker in a casino or on your iPhone, you need to set hard spending limits before you begin so you can stay on budget regardless of what happens at the table.
You see, it’s very easy to let your emotions get the better of you when you’re winning or losing too much. You then end up either playing more games to keep the streak alive or to try and make a comeback. Either way, the whole thing would most likely end with you having spent way more money than you originally planned—which is never a good thing, especially if you want to keep your poker career running for a long time.
Establish a playing schedule
Unlike real-world games that require you to get dressed and make the commute to a casino (or a friend’s house), mobile poker allows you to literally just pick up your iPhone and start playing anytime. This means there’s practically nothing preventing you from wasting an entire day away just playing. So, if you’re the type to get hooked on things, then be sure to have a set playing schedule each day to ensure that this does not happen.
Invite your friends to play
This is especially useful if you’re a beginner. Playing with friends effectively eliminates the possibility of you ever having to play against someone better who’s out to win as much money as they can at your (and all the other players’) expense—at least until you get good enough to play with strangers.
Playing with people you know also allows you to easily get your money back in case you make a huge mistake that causes you to lose massive amounts of cash while you’re playing. If this happens when you’re up against people you don’t know, then you might as well say goodbye to your money because you’ll never see it again.
Choose a good poker app or website
You’re playing online poker with real money; you might as well choose a good platform to play on, right? But what exactly makes a poker website or app good? Well, there are three things to look for: security, safety and fairness.
Does your chosen online real money poker platform have robust security measures in place? How does it handle monetary transactions? How does it protect you from scams and technical issues? Is their customer support easy to get in touch with?
By safety we mean protection from all forms of cheating. How does your chosen poker app or website prevent people from hacking the system to gain an unfair advantage over other players? How does it prevent its own team from cheating you? Does it have good cheating-prevention tools and policies in place?
How much of your winnings does your chosen platform actually let you take home? If it charges you a fee for virtually every single move you make, then it’s probably a good time to look for an alternative. The goal should be to play on a platform that will let you keep as close to 100% of the money you win as possible.
